Wisdom Teeth Removal

Our anesthesia-certified dentist can remove wisdom teeth in the comfort of our office, without requiring a referral to an oral surgeon. This provides the convenience of being seen in our office, by familiar surroundings and staff members, at a cost significantly lower than at a specialist’s office.

Before removing wisdom teeth, you will be given anesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed. IV sedation is typically used, especially if several or all of your wisdom teeth will be removed at the same time. IV sedation prevents pain in the whole body and will cause you to sleep through the procedure. It is required that you do not eat or drink after midnight on the night before surgery so that you are prepared for the anesthetic.

To remove the wisdom teeth, the gum tissue over the teeth will be opened up to take out any bone that is covering the teeth. The tissue connecting the teeth to the bone will then be separated and the teeth will be removed. Sometimes the teeth will be cut into smaller pieces to make it easier to remove.

After the teeth are removed, stitches are usually required. Some stitches dissolve over time and some have to be removed after a few days. A follow up appointment will be scheduled for Dr. Wettstein to ensure the areas are healing well and to remove stitches, if necessary.
